music note Music In My Present: Twelfth Grade

As a senior in high school, I currently participate in the Wind Ensemble as a percussionist as well as in the marching band as the drum Drum Majormajor. Even in the three months since our band season started, I've grown in my musical tastes and abilities. Prior to this year, I never paid attention to the color guard; however, just out of curiousity, I picked up a flag and asked a member how to spin it. I found it extremely entertaining; since our show has a number in which I am not required to conduct, I instead spin with our colour guard for its duration.

Additionally, I have revisited a program that I used in AP Music Theory- Finale 2009. Independently, I am working on arranging songs by artists I like for various ensembles- marching bands, percussion ensembles, and concert bands. I have no real purpose in doing this, nor will these ever leave my computer; the sole motive is my enjoyment. I'm also considering playing again in the Jazz Band for the second semester; now that I have been away from the saxophone for the greater part of three years, playing a few songs appeals to me.

Expanding into other instruments is still on my agenda- in order to participate in Tuba Fest, a night where anyone with a tuba or baritone can get together to play Christmas carols, I am learning the baritone. Currently, I am working with my school's Carrer Connections Counselor to secure an internship at a local radio station, a prospect that would give me great experience while still in high school.
